The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, August 01, 2011 Dee Kemp Sybrandt March 6, 1943 - July 28, 2011 Dee Kemp Sybrandt was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Olive Margaret Dibben and Arthur Calvin Cork. She was raised with her brother Bob and sister Ruth in Alhambra, Calif., by her mother Olive and her stepfather Robert Kemp. She graduated from San Marino High School in 1960. In her early adult years, Dee lived in La Crescenta, Calif., with her two daughters Rachelle Turner Joy and Raquelle Joy. She married Jim Sybrandt in 1978 and they were married until his passing in 2008. Jim and Dee lived in Eureka Springs, Ark., from 1987 to 1997 where they owned Craft-Dee-Critters Gift Shop, Eureka Doll Company and Eureka Springs Lock and Key. Dee had a long life of creativity in many areas including quilting, porcelain dolls, jewelry and bead design and in the last few years fused glass and metal work. She and Jim retired to Prescott Valley, Ariz., in 1997, but she continued her multi-media artwork through her businesses Bead Dee Lady and The Dee Kemp Sybrandt Studio. One of her favorite events was participating in the Mountain Artists Guild's Studio Tour. Dee always believed in volunteerism and being active in her community. Of her many organizations, she served on the board of The Good Shepherd Humane Society of Eureka Springs and the Heritage Park Zoo in Prescott. She was also a founding member of the High Desert Bead Society, served on the Gallery Committee for the Mountain Artists Guild, was a member of the Prescott Valley Rotary Club and maintained a long connection with the NW Arkansas Heirloom Doll Club long after moving to Prescott Valley. Dee touched the lives of her family and many friends. She is survived by her mother; sister; brother; her daughter Rachelle; her partner Kathleen Peppers; daughter Raquelle and her husband Mark Gluvna; grandchildren Marissa and Cameron Joy-Kurtz, Dallon Joy-Gluvna; and animal companions Pearl, Simba, Freckles and Matt. Services will be at Unity Church in Prescott, Ariz. on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Dee's favorite charities the Mountain Artists Guild Endowment Fund or the Yavapai Humane Society.
