FRIEND, Margaret Mary

Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - Margaret M. Friend was born Oct. 27, 1931 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Frank and Rose Burns. She married her beloved husband Norman O. Friend on Oct. 18, 1948 and joined him in heaven on July 19, 2011. Margaret was a city girl who raised her two older children Jean Streibick (Scott) of Lake Havasu City and Norman Friend, Jr. (Susan) of Salem, N.H. on the East Coast, always a short commute to the City and all it offered. In 1976, she was convinced by her husband and a McCulloch "Fly in Sale", that this small growing town was just the place to raise her two young daughters, Teresa Friend and Nadine L. Bartels (Ed), both of Lake Havasu City. Initially, Margaret felt Lake Havasu was a bit of a cultural "desert" but quickly embraced life here. She became a 4-H leader and throughout her daughters' teen years, traveled with her 4-H groups to state parks, horse shows, stage shows and museums in the Arizona, Nevada and Utah areas. As her family and Lake Havasu City grew and her husband hit the desert trails on horseback, Margaret hit the floor as a hostess at Denny's. Margaret spike fondly of her employer Mr. M. Stanovich and of her customers. Margaret was an adored wife, Mother and Nana. She will be forever missed. Margaret was cremated and commingled with her husband's ashes by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial for both Margaret and Norman will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Judes Children's Hospital.
