Ronald Ernest Savill, a resident of Prescott, Ariz., was born April 9, 1915, in London, England. He passed away peacefully on July 21, 2011, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was the eldest of four brothers who all served in WWII - two died at sea, another taken as prisoner of war.
Ron served as an officer in the British Army until the war ended.
From England, he went to Rhodesia, where he grew tobacco on a large plantation until the government became unstable.
In January 1950, with his wife Ellen and new baby, he boarded the Queen Mary and headed for America. Not knowing anyone and with little resources, they took a train to the West Coast. Eventually, they moved to Seattle, Wash., where he was a zone manager for General Electric. After retirement, they moved to Southern California where Ellen died.
A man of many talents, he took up oil painting and theater, and volunteered at the Oceanside Police Department.
He remarried and they moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 1999.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; son Gary Savill; daughter Wendy Marshall; and stepdaughters Cheri Collins and Nora Unrath. Together they have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
