The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Saturday, August 06, 2011 John Steenhoven, 78 of Cottonwood, passed away on August 4, 2011. He was born on December 24, 1932 in Orange City, Iowa to Nick and Johana Steenhoven. John was a Staff Sergeant in the Marines during the Korean War. He worked for Greene’s Ready Mix in Torrance, California. John is survived by his wife Lilyan Steenhoven of Cottonwood; daughters Debra Porter (Larry) of Cottonwood, Karen Newberg (Scott) of Huntington Beach, CA, Janice Auveda (Frank) of Long Beach, CA, Valerie Dalensburg (Jason) of Albuquerque, NM; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood at 10:00am. An online guestbook is available to sign at www.westcottfuneralhome.com.
