Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, August 10, 2011 Doris Ruth Shearer James, 84, of Globe, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011. The eldest of four children, she was born on Nov. 8, 1926 in Binghamton, N.Y. to Ralph and Florence Shearer. After graduating from Binghamton Business College she relocated to Arizona where she met and married the late Cody James in December of 1948. They moved from Benson to Globe in the 1950’s where they opened the jukebox business, James Music Company and later established Cody James Electronics. Doris managed the business until she retired in 2008. She was an avid conservative and very active in the Republican Party. She was passionate about her country and extremely patriotic. She religiously served in some capacity during each county election while she was able. She was Vice President of the Gila County Republican Committee from 1985-1989, and served every executive position in the Gila County Republican Women’s Club. Doris enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, reading, painting, photography and spending time with her family. She had a thirst for knowledge, and attended college classes well into her 70’s. Her artistic abilities were evident in the many paintings she created and in the photos she captured. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed. She was a truly amazing woman, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Florence Shearer; her husband, Cody James; and her sister, Pat Sheldon. Doris leaves behind in loving memory her sister, Jean Sanford of Chico, Calif.; her brother, Ralph Shearer of Afton, N.Y.; and five children, Alan James (Sandy) of The Woodlands, Texas; Alice Skinner (Chuck) of Mesa; Anne Johnson (Larry) of Globe; Aline “Cookie” James of Globe; and Jesse James of Globe; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and wonderful friends. Services will be held Aug. 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Country Club Manor) 750 W. Paxton Ave, in Miami, Ariz. A potluck gathering in memory of Doris will be held at 11:30 a.m. at a location TBD. Funeral arrangements for Doris R. James were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Globe.
