Bill Junior Sanders passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Havasu Regional Medical Center at age 82. He was born in Elk City, Okla., Dec. 3, 1928, to William and Lonnie (Jolly) Sanders.
In December 1945, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country aboard the USS St. Paul until being honorably discharged Oct. 22, 1947.
Bill and his wife, Doris, made Lake Havasu City their home 21 years ago, moving here from San Diego. While in San Diego, Bill worked 40 years for Dairy Mart Farms, which then became Altadena Dairy.
Bill was an avid fisherman and took great pride in his garden. He was a member of VFW and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Bill leaves behind his son, Gary Sander and his wife, Lynn, of Placentia, Calif.; daughters, Deborah Spencer, of Lake Havasu City and Cheryl (Greg) Sorah, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; brother, Speedy Sanders; stepson, Billy (Norma Jean) Lankin; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Doris, who passed away Jan. 28; three brothers; three sisters and his stepson, Jimmy Lankin.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with Pastor Trent Saari offering words of comfort and inspiration. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 9401 and American Legion Post 81 at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens 2 p.m. Monday.
