Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Saturday, August 13, 2011 - Lyla M. Fausz Nov. 3, 1926 - Aug. 8, 2011 Lyla M. Fausz, 84 years young, died Aug. 8, 2011 in Tucson, AZ where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Larry Brown for three and a half years. Lyla was a resident of Lake Havasu City for more than 40 years. Best known by many Lake Havasu residents as, “the chili lady” for her work organizing the successful Lake Havasu Chili Cook Off, which gave money to many LHC organizations — i.e. Humane Society, Senior Center, Police and Fire departments — to name just a few. Her other hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, collecting cookbooks and loving her dog, Laci. She is survived by daughters, Verna Wilson, New Buffalo, Mich., Marianne Cartright, Santa Anna, Calif., Carol Deweese, Morgantown, Ky., Susan McIntosh, Phoenix, and Holly Brown, Tucson; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fausz; and her son, James McIntosh. As to her wishes, no services were requested, however donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson or Lake Havasu Museum of History.
