Isaac (Ike) Johnson was born in Columbia, MS August 8, 1920 to Thalmage and Rachel Johnson. He met and married Ms. Edwina Williams, and to that 60 year union, 6 children were born. They moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 1958.
He served in the armed services (army branch) and received 3 medals, Apto Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He served in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. He was a sharpshooter.
He was employed by Flagstaff Housing for 20 years in maintenance dept.
He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an usher, until he became unable to carry out his duties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thalmage and Rachel Johnson, one brother, Cartee Johnson, sons Julius Johnson and Joseph Johnson, and daughter Mattie Mae Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Edwina, survived also by one brother Arthur B. Johnson, 7 children, Cartee Johnson (Nancy) Flagstaff, Betsy Johnson, Flagstaff, Bernard Johnson, Cynthia Black, Sacramento, CA, Mary Burnett (Arthur) Longview, TX. Children from previous marriage are Annie Lee Newson, Houston, TX, Robert Johnson (Michelle) Columbia, MS, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ. Funeral service will be 10 am Monday at the First Missionary Baptist Church Interment with military honors will conclude services at Citizens Cemetery.
