William W. “Bill” McGaughey Jr., age 84 of Claypool, passed away Thursda,y Aug. 11, 2011, at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe, Ariz. He was born in El Paso, Texas on Feb. 10, 1927, the son of Harriet (Manning) and William Webster McGaughey, Sr.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a company carpenter and he was so immaculate he won the right to escort General Pace.
Bill enjoyed carpenter work and painting. He was the neighborhood handyman, always helping with different jobs such as replacing roofs to shoveling snow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John McGaughey; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Lindley and Harriet Langley.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Annie Jane McGaughey, whom he married on April 1, 1950; three children, Gwen Carroll and her significant other Bill Munda of Miami, Ariz., Kathy (Bill) Fronterhouse of Idaho, and William Michael McGaughey of Claypool, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Heather, Taylor, Velvet, Jamie, Kasey, Ashley, Michael and Chloe; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary McGaughey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 201 Yuma Street, in Globe, Ariz.
