KURZMAN, Blossom D. (Blos)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, August 20, 2011 Blossom D. Kurzman May 8, 1927 - August 13, 2011 "Blos" Kurzman, 84, died quietly at home on Saturday, Aug. 13, after a month-long illness. A resident of Prescott, Ariz., for 41 years, she was born May 8, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Louis and Adelaide (Rausch) Kurzman. Always a whiz with numbers, Blos often helped her father, a CPA. After earning a BA degree in chemistry at Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y., she was a research chemist for hospitals, including Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she conducted research for The Polio Foundation. Later she performed chemical analysis for a vitamin company in New Jersey. She was a resident of Plainfield, N.J., from 1959 until 1970, when she moved to Prescott. An avid gardener, Blos grew both vegetables and flowers, including several varieties of roses. She was a dog lover who relished traveling, RVing and camping. She also enjoyed playing the piano and independent investment in the stock market. Impatient with entering data into a computer, she preferred to make calculations in her head. Blos is survived by Nan Davis, her beloved life partner of 63 years, and her faithful black dog "Bear." Also surviving are her devoted nephew Adrian Kurzman and his wife Kim, as well as their children, Alexandra Kurzman, Kelly Kurzman, Kris Emery and Kolton Kurzman. Her brother Elliott predeceased her. All who knew Blos are invited to a celebration of her life and reception 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 822 Sunset Ave., Prescott. In keeping with her love of animals, contributions in Blos's memory may be directed to the Yavapai Humane Society. Information provided by survivors.
