California Youth Dies, Fatality 5
Rudolph N. Cox, age 21, injured in a one-car automobile accident a few miles east of Wickenburg early in the morning of October 2, died 10 days later in a hospital in Los Angeles where he had been taken after receiving treatment in Community Hospital here.
The man’s death brought to five the total of highway fatalities in the Wickenburg highway patrol district this year.
The highway patrol said Cox was driving west in a car owned by Frank A. Canale, age 21, also of Los Angeles, when he applied the brakes and lost control of the vehicle. It plunged into the median, a total wreck.
Canale was brought to the hospital here with severe head and chest injuries and later transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.
A local law enforcement officer told The SUN that Los Angeles friends of Cox and Canale, driving behind them the morning of the accident, stopped, thought Canale was dead and left him but took Cox in their car.
When he passed out near Forepaugh they thought he, too, was dead, and left him alongside the highway where he was found several hours later and brought to the hospital here.
