Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona November 23, 1967 Wittmann Lad Sixth Fatality A 22-months-old child, Bryan Nichols of Wittmann, died last Thursday in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Phoenix, from injuries received in as one car accident the day before seven miles west of Wickenburg. His death brought to six the total of highway fatalities this year in the Wickenburg highway patrol area. The injured lad, his mother, Mrs. Janet Lee Nichols, age 23, and five other children were all brought to Community Hospital here. Bryan was taken on to Phoenix; the five children were treated for minor injuries and released while the mother was hospitalized in serious condition. Highway Patrolman Fred Lizarrago, who was unable to talk with the mother because of her condition, Highway Patrolman Fred Lizarrago, who was unable to talk with the mother because of her condition, pieced together reports from the five slightly injured children to learn the cause of the accident. The children said they were all enroute from Parker to Wittmann when Byran’s foot became entangled in the steering wheel and Mrs. Nichols lost control of the auto. The vehicle swerved off the right side of the road, came back on in a broadside skid, struck an embankment, overturned and landed on its top off the highway.
