‘Bill’ Gray’s sudden death grieves many – well-Liked Salome Man dies in Sleep
The death in Salome last Friday evening of William Berry Gray, who was known in his many friends and wrote Salome news for the SUN under the name of Bill Gray, shocks that community where he had lived for nearly 13 years. Just a few weeks ago he became this newspaper’s correspondent for the Salome area and he showed a real ability as a gatherer and writer of interesting news items. SUN readers will miss his column in this paper.
Although he had been under doctor’s care for undulant fever since moving to Salome in 1837, he had been feeling considerable better recently and that fact made his sudden and unexpected death a greater blow to his mother, Mrs. Estella Gray with whom he lived. Just before 5:30 Friday evening, he had said he was going to take a rest. He is believed to have passed away shortly thereafter. His mother found the body Saturday morning. Justice of the Peace Sam Haydis, acting as coroner, was called and ruled no inquest necessary.
Mr. Gary was born May 21, 1910, in Scott, N.M. The family later moved to Oklahoma and he was associated with his father in the produce business in Lexington, Okla., until 1934 when upon the death of his father, Mr. Gray moved with his mother to Del Norte, Colo. His health (the rest of the article is missing.)
