Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona October 20, 1950 Author Marianne Wentworth Final Rites on Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Marianne Wentworth, long time Wickenburg resident and book and magazine article author, were held in the chapel of Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix at 2 o’clock on Monday afternoon of this week. Cremation followed. Mrs. Wentworth, who had been in ill health for the past two years, died last Saturday morning at Community Hospital here. She had resided in Sylvan Village. Mrs. Wentworth was born in Cambridge, Mass., 66 years ago. She first came to Arizona 20 years ago as a winter visitor, stopping at the Champie Ranch at Castle Hot springs. Since then, she has been in Arizona for many years, a great deal of the time in Wickenburg. For about 15 year she owned a ranch near Flagstaff. Although a New Englander for most of her life, Mrs. Wentworth picked the west as her first love, made a concentrated study of western history and life, and made the west a subject of many of her writing. “Forged in Strong Fires” is the title of her first book, published by The Caxton Press. She has two unpublished books which her family hopes to place for publication. They are “The Baker Metal” and The Final Mold.” Her best known magazine articles say her friends, are “Skid Row,” published in Argosy in 1926, and “The Old round Up Wagon,” published in the Read Kid Western in 1946. She was the author of numerous magazine articles, all with a western flavor. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. J.B. Palmer of Cambridge, Mass.; two sons, John Wentworth of Albuquerque, N.M., and Palmer Wentworth, of Altadena, Calif.; a daughter, Marianne Wentworth of New York City; two brothers, Richard Palmer of Providence, R.I and Robert Palmer of Palm Springs, Calif.; and two sister, Mildred Palmer of Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, of Cape Elizabeth, Me. Those in Wickenburg for the funeral services were sons John and Palmer, daughter Marianne and brother Robert.
