William M. Jackson, Jr.
Long time Concho residents, William Monroe Jackson, Jr. and June Marie (LaMoore) Jackson died in Phoenix.
Bill was a retired Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Air Force, and they owned the Jiffy Store in Concho until selling it in 1988 to their son, William M. Jackson, III. Bill and June moved to Phoenix in the fall of 2008 for medical reasons, keeping their home in Concho for visits.
Bill and June enjoyed 63 years of marriage before Bill died Feb. 23, 2010, and then June died July 21, 2011. They met in Grand Island, Neb. and were married there June 22, 1946, after Bill completed his active service in the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Pacific arena during World War II. They then moved to New Mexico, living many years in Hobbs before moving to Seattle, Wash.
Missing the desert, they moved to Albuquerque, N.M. and then later to Concho. Bill continued his lifetime passion of exploring the geography and archaeology of the desert, and June became a talented oil painter.
They are survived by four children: Elizabeth Ann Campbell of Lancaster Calif., William Jackson III of Concho, Susan Fisher of Phoenix, and Glenn Jackson of Seattle Wash. Also surviving are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by sister Kathryn (Kassie) Lanning of Artesia, N.M., and June has three surviving siblings: Louis Charles LaMoore of Minn., Jeanne Strickland of Kansas, and Barbara Davis of Arizona.
They were pre-deceased by three beloved grandchildren.
A joint memorial service will be held in Artesia, N.M. in October. Hospice of the Valley provided end-of-life care for both Bill and June. Donations may be made in their memory to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
