Marie was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., Nov. 25, 1936, to Richard and Alice (Sheperdson) Gisin.
Marie graduated from Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1958, where she worked as an assistant night supervisor for four years.
She married Robert Barry Belt March 17, 1960. In 1962, she moved to Pelham, N.Y. Marie was the director of nursing for Furman Nursing Home for 15 years, and then worked for the Bayberry Nursing Home for two years prior moving to Lake Havasu City.
Marie worked for Havasu Regional Medical Center starting in 1977 in the Emergency Department, and she became supervisor of the department in 1981 through 1985. She was divorced from Robert Barry Belt in 1980. She worked nights “11-7” for over 20 years. During that time she met and married Harvey Larry Hiles, one of the first police officers in Lake Havasu. She worked at Havasu Surgery Center for five years.
Marie enjoyed classical music, reading, spending time with family and friends, going out to breakfast, lunch or dinner, and corresponding with friends she had for over 40 years. She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved volunteering at the Havasu Nursing Center.
Marie is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Susan (Bill) Sikes of Lake Havasu City; Sharon (Dennis) Leatherman of Orange, Calif.; stepdaughter Darla Varney of Teoka, Wash.; grandchildren Shawn Sikes, Kenney Sikes and Ronni Sikes of Lake Havasu City; Jenna Leatherman, Blake Leatherman and Kevin Leatherman of Orange, Calif.; David Varney, John Varney and Lauren Varney of Teoka, Wash.
Memorial services will be held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Dale Ray will offer words of comfort and inspiration. Per Marie’s wishes, she did not want anyone to wear black. Please wear colorful attire in her memory.
