Dr. Joseph Treon 1934 - 2011
Treon, Dr. Joseph Edward (Dr Joe) D.O., 77, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, August 27th. Born August 15, 1934 to Margaret and Joseph Treon in Dayton OH, the oldest of six children, dad attended Chaminade Catholic High School and graduated from the University of Dayton and the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Science, Des Moines IA.
He married Mary Ellen in 1958, and they settled in OH after his graduation from medical school. They were blessed with “five little women”, daughters Beth Orton (Mike), Amy Behr, Meg Coppersmith (Chris), Jodi Doran (Jeff), and Mikki Davis (Jim) who miss him more than he will ever understand, and will love him for eternity. Beloved grandchildren include: Whitney Thistle (David), Madison and Zachary Orton, Ryan Jones and Lily Behr, Jenna Schebor, and Mason, Carter, and Kacy Davis; and great grandson David Joseph Thistle + Thistle baby on the way.
Dr. Joe began his medical career in private practice in Cortland OH and was a member of the staff at Warren General Hospital. In 1971, the family moved to Phoenix AZ where he began a residency in radiology at Phoenix General Hospital. He moved to Parker, AZ in 1982 and continued his career at La Paz Regional Hospital as a Board Certified Radiologist and Director of Nuclear Medicine and Chief of Staff. He was honored to serve as a president of the AZ Osteopathic Medical Association.
In Parker, he met Kay (Leonora) and they wed in 1986. Many summer days were spent riding wave runners, boating, and enjoying the Colorado River lifestyle. He retired in 2005 and they relocated to Verde Santa Fe (Cornville), AZ. In addition to his devoted wife Kay, he is loved by her children Jim (Andrea) and Donny Leonora; grandchildren Jolie Chastain (Jeff), Jena Braunwalder, and Jonathan and Gavin Leonora; and great-grandchildren Jaylie, Jaren, and Jax Chastain, and Tatum and Taylee Braunwalder.
Dad was a private pilot and an avid traveler. He was a snappy dresser - whether cruising the Panama Canal or having pizza with the grandkids. The D’backs, Ohio State football, grandkids’ baseball and softball games and volleyball matches were his favorites. A perfect day included a bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup (or a handful of orange cookies!), and his devoted Bichons - Bristi, Benji, and Bonnie by his side.
Dad is also survived by his siblings Bill (Anne Marie), Dick, Kay Bedich (Joe), Pat (Jane), and Denny (Janie) and many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and loving friends.
Dad was a gentle man with a kind and generous heart. He led a good life, and in the end, while his mind and spirit fought to continue, his body just couldn’t keep up. He will be remembered most for his love of family and friends, and his faith in God. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
Services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 700 N Bill Gray Rd, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 (near the intersection of N Bill Gray Rd and AZ-89-Alt). A Celebration of Life will follow in the parish hall. Those unable to attend may pay their respects at buelerfamilyfuneralhome.com.
