Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Thursday, September 8, 2011 - Don Floyd Aug. 6, 1935 — Sept. 5, 2011 Don Floyd 76, passed away Monday, in Lake Havasu City. He was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Mount Vernon, Texas, to Gary Stephen and Mary Edna (Nowell) Floyd. Don and his beloved wife, Joyce, moved to Lake Havasu City 12 years ago, from Buena Park, Calif., where they had resided for 36 years. Don was a true Southern gentleman — compassionate and kind, he was always ready to share an encouraging word and lend a helping hand to anyone who crossed his path. He truly lived his faith every day and was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, and he loved life. He worked with his hands as a carpenter during the early years of his life. When Don relocated to Southern California from Texas, he went into commercial construction as a general superintendent for a large drywall firm. His work included many projects at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, Los Angeles Airport, the Aaron Spelling Mansion and countless other commercial buildings in the LA and Orange County area. He and his wife, Joyce, enjoyed retirement in Lake Havasu City. Don was a true giver and was a volunteer for Journey From Mourning to Joy Mother's Bereavement Group, Hospice of Havasu and the American Cancer Society; he was also a member of Boy Scouts of America. Don will be deeply missed and always loved by his family and friends. Don is survived by his wife, Joyce Floyd, of Lake Havasu City; sons, Randy (Martha), of Aguanga, Calif., and David (Micki) Floyd, of Boulder City, Nev.; daughters, Vickie (Robert) Curry, of Etna, Calif., and Tovey, of Fullerton, Calif.; 10 grandsons, four granddaughters and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Ann Floyd; parents, Gary and Mary Floyd; and siblings, Thressa Floyd and Dale Floyd. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd, LHC., with Dr. Chad Garrison officiating. A graveside service and interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Calif., at 10:30 a.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's name can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd., LHC, AZ. 86403.
