The Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on September 11, 2011 - Beloved husband, father, grandfather, good friend, veteran and sportsman, Jerry K. Barrick passed on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at his Kingman home. Jerry was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on Feb. 5, 1933. He had an "adventurous" childhood and was drafted into the Navy in December 1953. This started a proud career that lasted for 31 years of active duty service, followed by an additional 10 years of service to his country as a civil contractor. Jerry was trained as a Gunner's Mate and rose steadily in the ranks. He started as a 3rd class Gunner's Mate in 1954, achieved the rank of Master Chief by January 1977, and upon his retirement in 1982, Jerry had risen to the top and held the distinguished rank of Command Master Chief. During his service to his beloved country, Jerry served on the USS Pollux, Missouri, Piedmont, Halsey, Reeves and Horne. He served in Japan, as part of the NAVSHIPREPFAC, and was assigned to the Naval Ship Weapon System Engineers in Port Hueneme, Calif., and worked there until his retirement in April 1982. Jerry was an expert marksman, and an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, camp, fish, hike and go off-roading. Jerry met Hamae Kashima while she was working for the U.S. Government in Japan. They were married on July 5, 1956, in the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. Jerry and Hamae retired to Kingman in 1995. It was the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors, and do the things he loved. He would hunt quail and deer in the Hualapai Mountains and fish in Alamo Lake. They have two daughters, Jenny, who resides in San Diego with her husband Michael, and Lisa, who resides in Colorado Springs, Colo., with her husband Tim and their four children. According to his wishes, a private ceremony will be held with his family in San Diego.
