BROWN, Virginia Jean (Gina)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 09/20/2011 Virginia J. Brown, 85, also known as "Jean" or "Gina," died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, in Phoenix. She was a longtime resident of Alpine. Gina was born May 10, 1926, in Vernon, Texas, the daughter of Homer Bell and Virginia Taylor Robertson. She worked on airplanes for Williams Air Force Base in Gilbert and Shamrock Foods in Phoenix. She also traveled the United States for a company setting up office bookkeeping systems for medical records. Gina and her husband, Phoenix Brown, had a business in Phoenix selling cars and leasing billboard space. She was very patriotic and an avid Republican and loved hunting, fishing and camping. While living in Alpine, she helped start the Bush Valley Craft Club and started Allred's fashion show that is held every year at the Alpine Country Club. While living in Phoenix, she enjoyed a bridge club. Gina was a wonderful cook and hostess and enjoyed having company and cooking for them. She was also an accomplished artist and loved to paint. She is survived by one brother, William H. Robertson, Bucketty, Australia; two nephews: Lee Clyde James, Durango, Colo. and Dennis Allen Dunham, Salem, Ore.; and two nieces: Katheryn Lyman, Snowflake and KC King, Marina, California. Gina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phoenix Brown, one brother Robert Gill Robertson and one sister Mary Nell James. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Burnham Mortuary, 535 North Main, Eagar with a graveside service following at the Alpine Cemetery. Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled arrangements.
