The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, September 19, 2011 Patricia (Patsy) Hamblin Martin McCoy passed away on Sept. 17, 2011, in Mesa, Ariz. Patsy was born April 25, 1926, in Riverside, Calif., the youngest child of Fred and Helen Hamblin. With her older sisters, Mary Lou and Betty Anna, she attended local schools and following high school graduation, she attended Stanford University and graduated from University of California, Berkeley. She married Pat Minor Martin of Riverside, who was finishing law school in Berkeley and she taught school. After law school, they returned to Riverside where Pat had his law practice. They had five children and Patsy became a stay at home mother. Patsy was active in Riverside Junior League, National Charity League and a member and Deacon at Calvary Presbyterian Church. During Pat's two-year congressional term, Patsy was president of the 88th Congressional Wives Club in Washington, D.C., and remained active in local politics. After Pat's untimely death in 1968, Patsy returned to teaching, obtaining a Master's Degree in Special Education, transitioning from elementary, middle school to principal of an elementary school and finishing her educational career as an assistant to the School Superintendent. After retirement, she served as the director of the Riverside County Bar Association and was also elected as a trustee of the Riverside Community College Board. In 1990, Patsy married John McCoy, a fellow church member and a retiree of the Riverside legal community. Patsy and John lived in Riverside and Long Beach and they moved to Prescott, Ariz., in 2003 and became members of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Patsy will be remembered not only for her iron will, limitless energy, love of music and singing, but also as a caring and involved person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband John McCoy; sisters Mary Lou Cassell and Betty Anna Dunn; children Lisa (Bucky), Amy (Michael), Tom (Candy), Helen (Seth), Kurt (Marcia) Martin; stepdaughters Debbie McCoy and Lori Eckenweiler; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverside, Calif., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Desert Oasis Hospice of Phoenix or churches of your choice in Patsy's memory. Information provided by survivors.
