LEGLER, Larry Lee

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, September 20, 2011 Larry Lee Legler of Sheridan, Wyo., died at home on Sept. 13, 2011, after a short and grueling fight against pancreatic cancer. Larry was born in Craig, Colo., May 6, 1947, to Fred and Maxine Legler. The Legler family moved to Lynch, Wyo., for several years, then to Cody, Wyo., where Larry graduated from high school. He attended the University of Wyoming, graduating with a degree in education. Larry was previously married to Nancy Klein and they had four boys. After moving to Riverton, Wyo., Larry taught for several years before going to work in the construction field. In 1987, the family moved to Prescott, Ariz. Larry continued to work construction, and then became a teacher at Mile High Middle School. Larry enjoyed teaching mathematics and coaching in a variety of sports, including football, wrestling, soccer and baseball. Larry met Mary Margaret Valentine while teaching. They married and had two children, Gabe and Matthew. He loved teaching them how to hunt, fish and play sports. Larry retired from his teaching career in Prescott in 2009. In the summer of 2010, Larry proudly moved his family back to Wyoming. This was a dream come true because Larry had always wanted to be back in Wyoming and be close to his friends and family. He loved Wyoming's people, land and animals. Larry was not in Wyoming one year before he became ill. Larry has always given more to the people in his life than he has realized. Larry was always 100 percent devoted to children and their development. He started coaching youth soccer and baseball in 1981. Larry has continued coaching many sports up until the last couple of months of his life. Larry was an assistant scoutmaster for several years; he even backpacked all the way down into the bottom of the Grand Canyon and out. He was an avid outdoor adventurer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in both Arizona's and Wyoming's rugged environments. Many will miss Larry. His legacy will live on through not only his children, but also the children and adults of those whose lives he has touched. Larry is survived by his wife Mary; their sons Todd (Courtney), Travis (Carmen), Timothy (Kelly), Tyson (Jennifer), Gabriel and Matthew; his sisters Patty Bronnenberg and Jennet (Pat) Ballinger; his brother Fred (Sue) Legler and honorary sister Jennet Reihm. Nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Maxine, and his brother Glen. A Memorial Mass in Larry's honor took place at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan, Wyo., on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, with Father Jim Hiezer officiating. In lieu of flowers, Larry has asked that any donations be made to Holy Name Catholic School for student scholarships. Online condolences may be written at www.kanefuneral.com.
