Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Tuesday, September 20, 2011 - Maria Elizabeth Shehi July 27, 1924 — Sept. 16, 2011 Maria Elizabeth Shehi passed away Friday, in Lake Havasu City at age 87. She was born July 27, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Alfred and Angelina Gaudio. Maria moved to Lake Havasu in 1986 after retirement from Levittown, N.Y. She was a registered nurse her entire adult professional life from the Navel Cadet Corps in 1944 to her retirement as charge nurse in neonatal unit in 1986. Even after retirement, she continued to expand her nursing expertise with continuing nursing education to keep up her license and knowledge up-to-date. Maria was a devoted believer in helping family and friends. She loved to travel, meet people, build scrapbooks of her adventures, arts and crafts, write letters and she was an avid reader. Maria is survived by her husband, Winfield Scott Shehi; her daughter, Christina Marie Shehi; and her son, Randall Scott Shehi. A visitation will be at Lietz-Fraze Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Chauncey Winkler offering words of inspiration and comfort. Contributions are requested in Maria’s memory to Hospice of Havasu, P.O. Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405.
