Harold Hoomana Keanini was born on May 31, 1935 in Hoolehua, Molokai, Hawaii; passed away October 31, 2009 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
He is survived by his wife Patty of 35 years and two children: Dena (Keanini) Hale (husband Ron) and Harold Hoomana Keanini III. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Latasha, Terrell, Devon, Joshua, Casey, Lecia. His daughter Leilani Keanini precedes him in death.
Harold, also called Brother, served in the United States Marine Corps for 30 years. He is the 16th of 18 siblings born to Arthur Akahi Keanini (father) and Ah Yee Kaili Akana (mother). Of his family members, Harold is preceded by Arthur Keanini, Ah Yee Kaili Akana Keanini, Kuikuiehu Ella Banks, James Akahi Keanini, Charles Isaie Keanini, Flora Kaili Elia (Birdie), Joseph Nahau Keanini (Dolly), Hanna Keanini (1st), Henry Hoopii Keanini, Arthur Kaopuiki Keanini, Leilani Rebecca Burke, Hannah Ahula Davis, Harold Keanini (1st), Alexander Kailianu Keanini (Sonny). Harold, is survived by his siblings Camille Kuulei Case (Honey), Winifred Lauwae Miley (Darling), Milton Alona Keanini (Buddy), and Cyrus Kalawaia Keanini. His is also survived and preceded by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Harold "Brother" Keanini was raised on the island of Molokai. At the age of 15 he lived with his brother James Keanini until he completed the 11th grade at Molokai High School. At that time he moved to Hilo, Hawaii to live with Aunty Rebecca Tim Sing where he graduated from Hilo High School in 1954. Upon graduation Harold joined the US Marine Corps, where he served for 30 years.
After the service, Harold worked at Mission Bowl while utilizing his GI Bill to attend college. Then in 1978, he transferred to Phoenix, where he continued his education, while working for Brunswick Lanes. He then went to work for Bechtel construction, where he worked as a Quality Control Electrical Engineer. When the time came to retire, Harold chose to continue to be employed, and joined the team at Recreation Centers of Sun City West, where he worked for 23 years.
A very loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and brother, he loved talking about his family, playing his ukulele, and he had a passion for bowling that was out of this world, and was very willing to help others. He loved playing games on the Internet, most commonly on Pogo. Many friendships were made during his game playing moments.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 07, 2009 at 4 P.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 701 N. 95th Ave. in Tolleson, with refreshments to follow after the service until 8: P.M.
