Jemmi Clara Elizabeth Wingham Helmericks
Jemmi Helmericks went to be with the Lord on Sept. 29, 2011, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born on Feb. 9, 1934, in Trimble County, Ky., to Omer A. Wingham and Leona Woodfill Wingham.
She and her first husband moved to Phoenix in 1957. As a stay-at-home mom, she was blessed with three precious daughters, the joy of her life. In 1973, she married Clarence J. (Jim) Helmericks Jr. in Colorado. They moved to the Prescott area in 1975. Jemmi worked as a Yavapai County deputy superior court clerk, then graduated from Yavapai College in 1979 and worked for the City of Prescott until her retirement in 1990. She and Jim enjoyed playing and singing bluegrass gospel music and performed at the Sharlot Hall Museum folk festival in the 1980s as well as nursing homes, churches, and bluegrass festivals.
Jemmi leaves many dear friends from First Baptist Church, where she and Jim were members for many years, and Willow Hills Southern Baptist Church. She supported the fine work that Christian Academy does in giving K-8 children a Christian education.
Jemmi is survived by her husband Jim Helmericks; daughters Ronda Bilderback (Brandon and Ryan), Christie and Steven Kaiser (Mariah and Cody), Beth and Joe Buzzello (Alyssa); stepchildren Jim and Sharon Helmericks III (Jimmy IV, Joey and Jeb), Steven and Kathie Helmericks (Liv, Hayley, Wilson), Rebecca Welcome (Ben, Abbie, Daniel). She is also survived by brothers Bill Wingham and Gene Wingham and sister Eileen Goss, all of Indiana.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at First Baptist Church with interment at the Arizona National Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jemmi's memory to the Christian Academy of Prescott, Angel Fund for tuition assistance, 928-445-2565 or the University of Arizona Cancer Center, 3838 N. Campbell St., Tucson, AZ 85719, 520-694-2873.
Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
When I die say this of me:
My Eternal month of June has begun.
June, those precious thirty days of summer when birds greet the breaking of dawn with wakening song, while the world is still in quiet repose - my favorite time of the year when I rise early in order to take all of these natural wonders deep into my soul, and I am refreshed beyond description. Written during devotions June 12, 2005.
