Our beloved father and grandfather, Laurel Forest Ives (Grandpa Laurel), 86, of Lake Havasu City, was called to the Lord on Sept. 20, 2011 at his home.
Laurel was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Wetaskwin, Alberta, Canada. Laurel was one of seven children to parents, Harry Earl Ives and Lottie May Cox. Laurel married and had four daughters. Laurel loved his accomplishments in his younger days as a bronc rider; he was a member of the Rodeo Cowboy Association, and has been inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He loved riding, and was an avid “handicapper” at many racetracks and O.T.B.s. The C.D. and song “Fame, A Tough Bronc to Ride,” written by his friend Walter H. (Buddy) Gale, of Buck Lake, Canada, was inspired by Laurel ...who dreamed of rodeo fame. Laurel rodeoed broncs and bulls for more than 20 years while cowboying on the ranches of southern Alberta Canada; calling Pat and Fred Burton’s Ranch in Claresholm, Canada, his home where he found his love and talent for bronc riding. Laurel was a true cowboy. Later in his life, Laurel lived in Southern California and worked on numerous motion picture and television Westerns. Laurel retired to Lake Havasu City. His spirit and memory will continue to live in the hearts of all those who knew him. He will deeply be missed by all of his family and friends.
Laurel is survived by his daughters, Sandra Gail Nehme, Elizabeth Laurel Ives, Lottie Michelle Ives-Rock, Selena Teresa Ives Fallara; their mother, Marie Ives; their spouses, Jamal Nehme, Michael Rock and Angelo Fallara; his seven grandchildren Natasha Claire Nehme, Alana Lea Nehme, Robert Wesley Johnson-U.S. Navy Veteran E4, Zachary Forest Hunter, Nicholas John Fallara, Mackenzie Jade Rock and Autumn Rose Rock; Robert Wesley Johnson’s father, Todd Johnson; Laurel’s brother, Ronnie Ives; and sister, Lois Hengel, of Alberta, Canada; and great lifelong friends, George Williams and Joe Harris.
Thank you to the staff of Havasu Nursing Center for the kind and loving care of our cowboy and thank you to Hilltop Community Church.
