STANTIS, George Frederic


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, October 05, 2011 George Frederic Stantis, 85, died Aug. 29, 2011, at Hospice in Fitchburg, Wis., after a battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 11, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to George and Simone Stantis. George served in combat with the 89th Infantry Division during World War II attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant Fifth Grade. On May 14, 1949, he married Lillian Irene Laffargue in Los Angeles, Calif. George worked for more than 40 years in what was his life's passion: broadcast television. Some of his employers included Red Skelton, CBS, Desilu Productions and local television stations. During his broadcasting career, he won numerous awards and recognitions. Among his proudest were two regional Emmys and induction into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle. After retiring, George was a proud and very active member in the senior centers in Prescott, Ariz., and Hoover, Ala. While in Prescott, George volunteered for the police department and contributed his time and broadcasting expertise to create informational videos. He also created several video works for the Hoover Senior Center. George will be especially remembered for his incredible artistic abilities and love of his family and friends. George is survived by his sister, Monique (Stantis) Ankle, and three sons, George, Kirk and Scott. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Amy, Kimberly, Spencer and Trevor. George was preceded in death by his wife Irene and son Marc. A memorial service for family and friends will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at the Church of Spiritual Living, 3755 Willow Creek Road, Prescott.
