The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Thursday, October 06, 2011 Tom Smith, 66, of Cornville died September 27, 2011 in Cottonwood. He was born July 2, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Don and Thelma Smith. Tom was a retired heavy equipment operator and mechanic for various companies. He lived for over 30 years in the Verde Valley. He enjoyed golf, NASCAR especially followed Dale Jarrett, crosswords and their dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years Kris Smith; brother Bret Lee Smith of Oklahoma; sisters Diane Close of Atlanta and Chris Bell of Colorado and four nieces and nephews.
