Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona George Edward Eyrich (August 28, 1940 - September 29, 2011) Flagstaff native, George Edward Eyrich, passed away September 29, 2011 at the age of 71 surrounded by his loving family. George was born August 28, 1940, first son of Ed and Jean Eyrich. He attended elementary school at Arizona State Teachers College Training School (now NAU) and graduated from Flagstaff High School with the class of 1958. George was in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. His first duty was surveying the burial site for President John F. Kennedy who had just been assassinated. In addition, he was a part of the unit that daily replaced the flowers on the burial site. George was given commendations from the Army and from Jackie Kennedy for his service. He was also assigned to work in Ethiopia assisting that country in surveying for new roads. George loved Flagstaff and the surrounding area. He spent time camping, fishing, hunting, picnicking, and wood-cutting with his extended family and friends. For several years he coached a women’s slo-pitch team and later played men’s slo-pitch. He met and married the love of his life, Kay McKenzie 42 years ago. In addition to Kay he is survived by sons, James and Michael, and grandchildren Clayton, Amber, Stefyn,, and Nicholaus . Also surviving are brothers, Norviel (Kris) of Mineral, VA, Carl (Valda) of Lake Montezuma, AZ, and John of Flagstaff; and sisters, Bonnie Greer (David) of Mesa, AZ, Helen Tackitt of Flagstaff, Dorothy Miller (John) of Williams, AZ, and Hazel Eyrich of Sedona, AZ, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. George was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, and grandson Charles Rowan. George will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. A "REMEMBERANCE OF HIS LIFE" will be held at Mike and Rhonda’s Restaurant on S. Sitgreaves , October 15, 2011 at 4:oo pm.
