OBITUARY OF ELIZABETH ANNE SHANBERGER BARRINGTON
ROSWELL DAILY RECORD
March 7, 1917
Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Barrington was born near Little Rock Arkansas Feb. 9th, 1849.
Her maiden name was Shanberger, she was married in 1870 to Joe W. Barrington and moved to Arizona in 1880 and settled near Prescott where she lived for 32 years and then to Roswell where she has for the last five years.
There were six of her children, two boys and four girls, one son died about 25 years ago and one daughter 12 years ago leaving at the present time a son, W.D. Barrington and a daughter Mrs. Mary E. Major who live at Prescott Arizona and Mrs Kate Finney and Mrs. Margaret Shepherd of this city with fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her husband preceded her to the better world twenty two years.
After years of suffering and months of lingering illness, the end came quietly in the early morning of February 5th at the Catholic hospital in Roswell.
She died as she had lived in the triumphs of a living faith in Jesus Christ. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in her childhood in which she lived a consistent member her entire life and as the end drew nearer and her afflictions cut her off from other privileges, her faith and trust in Christ and her devotion to her Bible grew upon her till the summon call her from labor to rest. In the closing hours she was undoubtedly living in two worlds.
She was more conscious of the presence of those of her loved ones who had preceded her than those who were waiting with her for the end. She rounded out almost her three score and ten years being a little over 68 years of age, she filled well that highest of all places, wife and mother, and her going was ????( Can not read) which as it went down on this shore was rising with renewed glory upon an other. We miss her and shall for many days, but we know where she is and it is ours to meet her again.
May her faith be shared by her children and her grand-children and may they form an unbroken circle over there as they pass from the walks of this earth—A Friend.
