Believe Man Died Before Car Crashed
The death of a Saskatchewan, Canada, man whose eastbound car left the highway and plunged into Calamity Wash at 2:30 Sunday afternoon will probably not be recorded as a highway fatality.
Arizona Highway Patrolmen, after talking to witnesses and examining papers found on the body of Ernie G. Legare, age 55, a salesman, are convince he died of a heart attack just before his eastbound 1968 Chrysler 2-door hardtop crossed over from the eastbound lane, crashed over the barbed wire fence and wound up in the wash just east of town.
Three passengers in a westbound car told Investigating Patrolman Bob Kircher that they were sure Legare was dead when his car crossed over in front of them. Patrol Sergeant George Schuck said that papers found in the man’s possession indicated he was undergoing treatment for a heart ailment. The papers also indicate that he is survived by his wife and children in Saskatchewan.
