West Valley View, Avondale, AZ April 13, 2010 J.G. Sherrill, 84, of Goodyear died April 8, 2010, in Phoenix. Mr. Sherrill was born Nov. 24, 1925, in St. Louis to Delafayette and Dorothy. He served in the Navy from age 17 until he retired in 1962. He married Alleen on Dec. 16, 1950. He moved to Arizona in 1960. He was Goodyear's chief of police for 17 years and retired in 1984 after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Goodyear volunteer Fire Department, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8987, the American Legion Post 61 and Fleet Reserve Association. He is survived by his wife, Alleen; three daughters, Patricia McCray, Junie Johnson and Dianne Ferguson; one son, Guy; four sisters, Geraldine Todd, Barbara Steghaus, Midge Sherrill and Pat Strunk; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. April 14 at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road in Goodyear. Service will be at 11 a.m. April 15 at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.
