27 May 1886 - January 1976 Lemmie Stauffer Higley, 89, was brought to the Valley by her parents in 1892 and was the sister of the late Charles Stauffer, former owner of the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette. She received her teaching certificate in 1907 from Tempe Normal School, now Arizona State University. Before that she attended Glendale schools where her family were ranchers and farmers. She taught school while her late husband, Tom, served in the Marines in World War I. She moved from Phoenix to Tucson in January 1975. Son, Tom S. Higley; sister, Pearl Knorpp; sister-in-law, Edith Bennett Stauffer; a grandson and two great grandchildren. Burial in Greenwood Memorial Park. The Arizona Republic 1/14/1976 p. C-3.
