The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/18/2011 Nora Askew of Phoenix died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at home surrounded by loved ones after a year long battle against leukemia. She was born April 3, 1948 in McNary to J.W. "Dutch" Kay and Georgia Kay. Nora was raised in the White Mountains and graduated from Blue Ridge High School as well as attended the University of Arizona. Nora's drive for excellence propelled her to a career of managing three separate country/golf clubs. Although she loved her work she felt that her greatest achievement was raising her two sons. She had an array of interests that included fishing, camping, traveling, reading and handwork. She dearly loved spending time with her family and friends playing any card or board game. Nora is survived by her sons: Richard Simon and Matthew Simon (Kelly); mother, Georgia Kay, sister, Marilyn Winn (Delbert); brother, Joseph Kay (Amy); and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, J.W. "Dutch" Kay and Michael Parsons, the love of her life. Memorial services will be held at the LDS Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1520 Church Lane in Pinetop/Lakeside. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or American Diabetes Association. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Dahmer and staff at the Arizona Center for Cancer Care and Hospice of the Valley for their care and support.
