Audrey C. Meader (Carpenter), age 85, recently of Prescott, Ariz., died Oct. 16, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Lockport, Ill., with her family by her side. Her final days were spent talking with family and friends that she had touched in many ways throughout her very memorable life.
She was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Joliet, Ill. Audrey graduated from Streator High School and was Valedictorian for the Class of 1943. She graduated from the Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Northwestern University. After graduating, Audrey met and married William A. Meader in Streator, Ill., in 1947 and moved to Champaign-Urbana, where William completed a Masters Degree at the University of Illinois. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Prescott, Ariz.
Her interests included family, gardening, hiking in the mountains, pets, politics, religion, watching the Arizona Diamondback baseball games, and playing competitive Scrabble with her family.
Mrs. Meader is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Richard) Meader Schenk of Lockport, Ill. and Carol A. Meader of Shorewood, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, and by her four flower sisters, Lois, Marjorie, Eileen and Mary Lou, and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at St. Joseph Church, 5th and Jefferson streets, Lockport, Ill. Inurnment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, immediately following Mass.
