West Valley View, Avondale, AZ September 27, 2011 Priscilla Chapman Compton, 90, of Litchfield Park died Sept. 19, 2011, in Litchfield Park. Mrs. Compton was born Nov. 25, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., to Benjamin and Ethel Chapman. In 1943, she graduated with a bachelor's degree from Hanover College in Hanover, Ind., and then moved to San Francisco to participate in the war effort by doing relief work with the Red Cross. Returning to St. Paul after the war, she met her husband, Bruce, who was teaching at Macalister College. They moved to Arizona in 1960, and she was a homemaker and member of the Morningside Presbyterian Church. Her contributions to the community include work at a crisis hotline, service at an A.I.D.S. hospice and feeding the homeless. In 1988, she received a certificate of honor as Volunteer of the Year from the governor of Arizona. She is survived by one daughter, Heather; two sons, Christopher and Mark; one sister, Ann; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at noon Saturday at Mountain View Christian Church, 2927 E. Campbell Ave. in Phoenix. The Rev. David Zook will officiate.
