SUKOSKY, J. LeRoy (John)


Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, October 26, 2011 J. LeRoy (John) Sukosky, age 68 of Globe, Ariz., passed away at his home on Oct. 22, 2011. He was born in Tarentum, Penn. on Dec. 8, 1942 to Ida and Michael Sukosky. John came to Arizona in 1951 when his family relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. and then later to Bagdad, Ariz. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. He was stationed in Alaska. After an honorable discharge from the Army, John returned to Bagdad, Ariz. where he met his wife of almost 47 years. He married Sharon Kaye Sipes on Dec. 18, 1964 in Bagdad, Ariz. John and Sharon have six children and seven grandchildren. John began his mining career in Bagdad, Ariz. where he worked for Bagdad Copper. He later relocated his family to Miami, Ariz. in 1968 to work for Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company and later Cyprus Miami and Phelps Dodge Miami. He was a heavy equipment operator for 38 years. John retired from Phelps Dodge Miami in January, 2002. John was one of the founding fathers of the Globe-Miami Vigilantes. He won many fast draw competitions around the state of Arizona in the early 1970s. Some of his hobbies included archeology, primitive woodworking, lapidary and his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports and 4-H. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherice Sukosky; his parents, Ida Ann and Michael Sukosky; and his brother, Mike Sukosky. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon Sukosky; his sons, Wyatt Sukosky, Westley Sukosky (Isabel), and Jason Sukosky; daughters, Lynn Heimer (Keith) and Lee Ann Anderson (Ron); grandchildren, Wayne Sukosky, Brandon Sukosky, Jonathan Sukosky, Kacey Heimer, Emily Anderson, Jacob Sukosky, and Kyler Heimer and his sister Myra Wyatt (Roy).
