James David Hunter went to be with his Lord on Oct. 24, 2011. He was a native of Arizona, born in Prescott on Jan. 13, 1931, to Clarence and Edna Hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betsy (Lacy); daughter Theresa Boogaard (Gerry); granddaughters Shannon and Casey; and grandson Sean. He is also survived by two sisters, Jeanne Bryant and Patsy Hugh. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Hunter, and a sister, Helen Evans.
James was a graduate of Prescott High School, received a B.A. from ASU and a M.A. from USM, and also served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. In the field of education he has served as a school administrator, teacher, career education director for Cochise College and administrator of grant programs. After retiring from education, he became a development agent for Subway in New Mexico and Texas. He retired from that position in 2001. James was a retired deacon, a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Mesa, and a member of Gideons International. He was a beloved husband and father who loved his family and his God. James will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at First Southern Baptist Church, 851 N. Stapley Drive in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to First Southern Baptist Church, or Gideons International.
