Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Published Thursday, October 27, 2011 - Marvin “Marney” A. Zinzow, 61, died following a courageous battle with cancer Oct. 26, 2011, at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington, Wis. He was born July 28, 1950, in Elkhorn, Wis., to Marvin and Gwen (Archambault) Zinzow. He graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1968. He was active in the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was a member of the 836th Carpenters Union. He was a skilled carpenter, who learned his trade from his father. He worked for Zinzow Construction until joining his father and brother, Mike, in Lake Havasu City, with MZ Builders. Upon returning to Elkhorn in 1990, he became a superintendent for J.P. Cullen and later Magill Construction. In 2003, he started his own Zinzow Construction. He was a craftsman and an accomplished artist in laying tile. He has left a legacy of beautiful designs in homes and businesses throughout the area. Marney loved cars, especially hot rods. As a teenager, he was always tinkering with cars. Occasionally, he would give the family car a little more power to the surprise of his parents. In later years, he loved to spend time with his son rebuilding their classic Jeep or attending car shows and drag races. Summers at the family cottage on Lauderdale Lakes played an important role in his life. He was an avid water skier learning at the young age of seven. He was among the first to ski barefoot on the lake. It was on the lake, when he first met his wife, Marcia Tillett, as teenagers. Their friendship was rekindled years later when they met again in 2001. Friendship turned to love and they were married June 8, 2002, at the lake. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his mother, Gwen Zinzow, Elkhorn, Wis.; one son, Jason (Abigail) Zinzow, Milton; two step-daughters, Dana Gray, Glenview, Ill. and Kate (Kevin) Killeen, Clarendon Hills, Ill.; one grandson, Kellan Fenner Zinzow; four step-grandchildren, Sam and Joey Gray, Ellie and Clare Killeen; sisters, Judy (Grant) Wiswell and Nancy (Jake) Jacobson, both of Elkhorn, Wis.; sister-in-law, Pat Zinzow, Elkhorn, Wis.; many nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles. Marney was predeceased by his father, Marvin; brother, Michael; and grandparents. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011, at the Community Church Of Elkhorn, 4654 Briggs Road, Elkhorn, Wis. with Rev. Robert Peiffer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Town of Sugar Creek. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Haase Derrick Lockwood Funeral Home, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, Wis. Marney was always there for his son, Jason, guiding, teaching and loving him. He was ready at any time to give a helping hand to his family and friends. He will always be in our hearts.
