LaVerne "Mugger" Cowell
Jan. 1, 1925 - Oct. 19, 2011
Survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Gene; son, Lawrence; grandson Marcus and his wife Marty; the “light of her life” great-granddaughter, Marlee Shea; sister Dottie and many, many family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Known to most of us as “Mugger”, LaVerne was born and raised in Dothan, Ala., where in 1944 she met her husband who was an Army Air Corp pilot stationed in her hometown.
They made a home and raised their family in El Monte then Hacienda Heights, Calif. They bought a second home in Parker in the 60’s, their vacation paradise. After 20 years with Bank of America, retiring as a Vice President, she and her husband retired in Parker and made it their permanent home in 1980.
Her love of water, boats and skiing made Parker her dream spot where she was very active in community organizations. She and her husband owned and operated “River Rags” with their late daughter Lindy, then later continued to run the business with their grand-daughter in-law, Marty, until the business sold a few years ago.
She was multi-talented winning several awards with her art, interior design, and party planning. She will be remembered as a mother, second mother to many, grandmother, great-grandmother and most importantly a friend to all who knew her.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest! Mugger, you will be in our hearts forever.
Memorial will be held at the Cowell home in Moovalya Keys, Saturday, Oct. 29. Open House starting at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers please donate to La Paz Regional Hospital Auxiliary or the La Paz County Humane Society in her name, would be much appreciated.
