Wickenburg lost one its most beloved Friday evening. Sue Fork passed away at home after a three-year battle with cancer. Even though it was a trying experience, we managed to have a lot of fun over the last three years, excluding the last three months, I’m happy to report.
Sue Alice AuBuchon was born to June and Ellis “Obie” AuBuchon on June 12, 1929 in Johnson City, Ill. She was raised in Festus, Mo., and Tucson, Ariz., where she met William C. Fork. They were married on June 4, 1950 and soon after started a family. Sue and Bill raised their family in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, Calif., from 1957 until the summer of 1967 when Bill and Sue decided to finish raising their family on an apple orchard in Zillah, Wash. After the kids where grown, the farm was sold. Sue and Bill moved back south to Wickenburg, Ariz.
Sue and Bill had six children - Keith (Pamela), William “Bill” (Frances), Thomas, Douglas, Kristen, and Eric (Vicky), and grandchildren Ben and Chelsea Fork. Sue was preceded in death by her son Douglas.
Sue was an avid golfer and had the good fortune to play well in many of the events that she entered. She won four club championships, three at Mt. Adams Golf Course. Toppenish, Wash., and one at the age of 77, in Wickenburg at Los Caballeros Golf Course. Sue was also quite the craftsman with her creative folk art and many other projects.
We have people tell us how much they love our mother all the time, and to know how much they mean it, is the very best compliment that can be given to a life well lived. We are so lucky to have a little of her extraordinary personality and character within us.
Many thanks to the fine care we all received from Hospice of the Valley staff. And many thanks to our girls in Wickenburg, Mary Alice, Michelle, Dot, and Shawna, for all the loving care they provided for Sue within the last few months.
Memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov.2) at David’s Desert Chapel in Wickenburg.
Arrangements are by David’s Desert Chapel.
