MARTIN, Hugh (Butch)


Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, AZ Wednesday, November 02, 2011 Hugh “Butch” Martin passed away on Oct. 24, 2011. He was born on Aug. 15, 1926, in Central Arizona to Abner and Mary Martin. Butch attended Thatcher High School and Gila Academy in Thatcher, Ariz. Butch served in the United States Army Air Corps and was a veteran of World War II. He was a courageous and dedicated firefighter for 30 years and retired as Globe’s Fire Chief. Butch loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later in life he was passionate about reading and watching baseball. He would continuously reminisce about old ball players and tell of his favorite moments in the games’ history. Family and friends all looked forward to Saturday nights with Butch because of the family barbecues in which everyone sat around the table listening to and telling stories. Butch was preceded in death by two sons, Barry Martin and Paul Martin; his parents; one brother, Hoyt Martin; and one grandson, P.J. Martin. Butch leaves behind in loving memory his wife, Theresa M. Martin of Globe, Ariz.; three children, Mark Martin (Sherry) of Joshua, Texas, Carol Bradford (Jack) of Globe, Ariz. and Scott Martin (Erin) of Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Lavell Martin of Central, Ariz., James Martin of Ft. Thomas, Ariz., Phil Martin of Thatcher, Ariz. and Russell Martin of Peoria, Ariz.; two sisters, Elaine Dallas of Denver, Colo. and Marva Bryce of Central, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Miles Funeral Services Globe Chapel, 237 S. Sutherland St., Globe, Ariz. Funeral arrangements for Hugh “Butch” Martin were handled by Miles Funeral Services Globe.
