West Valley View, Avondale, AZ November 01, 2011 George Pemberton, 84, of Goodyear died Oct. 21, 2011, in Goodyear. Mr. Pemberton was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Hartford City, Ind. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1939 at age 17 and then enlisted in the Army until 1945. He married Jacqueline Ann Marshall on Oct.14, 1945, in Detroit. They moved to Arizona in 1947, where he began his career for the Standard Oil Co. and worked his way up to manager before leaving to join the Arizona Highway Patrol. He retired as a lieutenant in 1983. During his 32-year career, his awards and recognitions included the Arizona Highway Patrol Lifesaving Award and numerous Letters of Commendation. After retiring from the Department of Public Safety, he continued serving in the reserve for DPS until 2001. He was honored for successfully completing 50 years of service, from March 22, 1951, to March 22, 2001. He continued to serve the community as an employee of the U.S. Forest Service in Coconino County for 10 more years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jacie; two daughters, Pamela Kelley and Anita Chiocca; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be private.
