For S. R. Toucey
An invalid for many years as a result of mustard gas burns received on the Western Front in World War I, Samuel R. Toucey, who served as an army major in that conflict, passed away Thursday evening, March 7, in the Veterans Hospital in Phoenix. Death came shortly after entering the hospital to which he had been removed following a week in the Community Hospital here. Mr. Toucey, age 83, had fallen and fractured his hip in the home of Mrs Toucey’s sister, Mrs. J. Kalb on the Prescott Highway, where they were winter visitors.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, March 11 at 11:30 o’clock in the A. L. Moore & Sons Mortuary in Phoenix. Graveside services and burial will be later in Kansas City, Mo., where the Touceys had lived for many years.
Born in Minneapolis, Mr. Toucey as a young man became private secretary to A. J. Mohler, president of the Union Pacific Railroad. Following his return from France he again joined the Union Pacific and became a general manager. He resigned that position to establish his own business, the S. R. Toucey Co., which sold railway supplies. It was located in Kansas City. Ill health compelled him to retire from active business a number of years ago.
