The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, January 21, 2007 July 21, 1908 - January 11, 2007 Ruth Ann Miller, last surviving daughter of Verde galley pioneers Charles B. and Minnie E. Coulson, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village in Tempe. She was 98 years old and was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Miller. Ruth was born in the Verde Valley where her father taught school and operated a ranch. After completing her education, Ruth moved to Tempe where she taught at Kyrene School. She later moved to Phoenix and taught first grade at Murphy Elementary School until her retirement. Ruth was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Queen Esther Chapter #22 O.E.S., and Qadish Temple #35 Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by her five nieces; Adrien Avis of Santa Rosa, Calif., Ann Louise Bell of Highland, Calif., Susan Condon of Chico, Calif., Linda Sampson of Hayward, Calif. and Nancy Whitaker of Tucson, Ariz., along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. There will be a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arizona Humane Society and the Phoenix Zoo.
