PANNKOKE, Frederick William, Sr.


Frederick William Pannkoke, Sr. passed away at John C. Lincoln Hospital November 22, 2002 from emphysema complications. Fred is survived by his wife Betty Sawyer Pannkoke; sister Doris Quackenbush, son Fred W. Pannkoke Jr., Newport, California; Christine Bare (Robert), Kauai, Hawaii; stepson Phillip Rich, Phoenix, stepdaughter Deborah Rich, Phoenix; grandchildren Travis Bare; Tyler Bare; Cassidy Bare, Kauai, Tonya Kolasinski (Travis); Daniel Eason; great grandchild Stellar Kolasinski. Fred was born to Florence and Erich Pannkoke on January 31, 1924 in Phoenix, AZ. He attended Kenilworth Grammar School, Phoenix Union and North Phoenix High Schools, Phoenix Junior College and the University of Arizona where he was a Sigma Nu. Fred was a Lt. JG in the Navy Air Force during World War II. Fred loved fresh water and deep-sea fishing, hunting and golf. In 1947 Fred began his career in the cotton business with Weil Bros. Cotton Co. in Memphis and Phoenix. He was transferred to the Bakersfield office in 1951. Upon his return to Phoenix, he was employed by Anderson, Clayton and Co. He was the manager of the cotton dept. until his retirement in 1989. Fred was a past president of the Phoenix Cotton Exchange and the Western Cotton Shippers Assoc. and a former director of the American Cotton Shippers Assoc. He was well known and a legend in the Cotton Industry. Fred was loved by not only his family, but also by his many friends for his great sense of humor, and "Pannkokeisms". Services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley, Phoenix.
