The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, November 2, 1937 Cherry Old-Timer John Allen, Is Dead One of Cherry’s first settlers has gone to his reward. He was John G. Allen, who was 83 years old when he passed on last Friday. Burial took place there last Sunday and attending were friends from miles around. He was born in Kentucky, at Marysville, October 1, 1854, the son of Kentucky-born parents. In 1875, which was 62 years ago, he came to Arizona territory, and settled for two years at Cordes, then went to Cherry, where he remained until his death. His widow, Julia, survives, also three sons, Lee, Hugh, and Richard, and four daughters, Mrs. Alice Wilson, Mrs. Merle Goswick, Mrs. Susie Battye, and Mrs. Mary McKrey.
