The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, February 25, 1942 William Johnson Called By Death William I. Johnson, aged 83 years, died this morning at the Pioneers Home, which he re-entered last December 8. He had been a guest of the Home on a previous occasion. He was born in Walker county, Texas, the son of W. J. Johnson, a native of Ireland, and Harriet (Sutton) Johnson, of Texas. He arrived in Arizona in 1884, coming to Ashfork and then to Prescott. He was superintendent of the Pioneer Home for a time when the Home was first started, and was Yavapai county recorder for a term. He was also a member of the O.K. Hose company and took a great interest in the department long after he had retired from active service. Mr. Johnson organized the Northern Arizona Lead and Zinc Mining company, the properties being located in the Havasupai canyon and also organized the Cataract Canyon Power company to develop power in that locality. He is survived by a cousin, J. W. Johnson, in Chattanooga, Tenn.; a niece, Mrs. LaRue Shillac, and a nephew, Harvey Johnson, of Houston, Texas. Johnson Funeral services for William I. Johnson, who died yesterday morning, will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Hunter Mortuary chapel. The Rev. Marshall Travers will officiate and services will be followed by interment in the Pioneer cemetery. Mr. Johnson, a native of Texas, had resided in and around Prescott for more than 50 years. He was at one time county recorder. He was interested in mining and power development in the Havasupai district. He is survived by a cousin, J. W. Johnson, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a niece, Mrs. LaRue Shillac and a nephew, Harvey Johnson, of Houston, Texas.
