Louis J. Moroni age 95, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ.
Born June 5, 1908 in Joliet, IL to the late Joseph and Antonia (nee Pesavento) Moroni and a lifelong resident before moving to Arizona in 1979 due to his wife's health.
A graduate of De La Salle High School Class of 1926. A United States Marine Corp veteran serving in WWII.
He married Irene (nee Corsini) in 1943. Following 53 years of marriage, Irene passed away July 2, 1996.
He owned and operated Straka's Cleaning of Joliet. He was the Joliet Township Assessor from 1960-1976; co-founder of the Guardian Angel Home and St. Peter Lutheran Home Boy Scouts Troop. Active in Scout work, he organized the first Will County Boy Scouts Jamboree held at Rivals Park in Joliet He also formed the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at St. Anthony Catholic Church and co-chaired St. Anthony Catholic Church first annual picnic held at the CYO grounds in Rockdale. He was very active in community affairs: a volunteer for the Joliet Red Cross Council, St. Joseph Hospital, Hines Veterans Hospital and was the Chairman of the Will County Cancer Drive for three years.
In Scottsdale, AZ he was also a volunteer for the Scottsdale Police Force in Public Relations, the Arizona Red Cross Chapter and the Franciscan Renewal Center. Former member of the Board of Directors for Trinity School in Joliet; he was Director of the Illinois Dry Cleaners Association, Illinois Assessor Association and past President and Secretary of UNICO National Joliet Chapter and was the 1972 UNICO Man of the Year. Member of the Joliet Lions Clubs and the 1971 Lion of the Year. Member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; Benevolent Order of Elks; the Moose Lodge; Joliet Rivals; American Legion Harwood Post #5 of Joliet and the Stone City VFW #2199.
Preceded in death by his wife; parents; one sister, Teresa (George) Van Zaghi; four brothers; his sister-in-law, Mary L. Weitendorf (Jan 11, 2004). Dear uncle of Sue Weitendorf, Sally (Randy) Pickell, Holly Weitendorf and John (Theresa) Weitendorf Jr: his brother-in-law, John Weitendorf.
Funeral services for Louis J. Moroni were held in Joliet, IL on January 16, 2004. lnurnment Hills of Rest Cemetery.
Memorial Services for Louis J. Moroni were held at St. Maria Goretti, 6261 N. Granite Reef Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85250 and also at Westminster Village Chapman Hall, 12000 N. 90th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
