Janet May Malloy 1928 - 2011
With her many loved ones at her side, Janet Malloy of Glendale Az. passed mercifully into heaven on October 24, 2011. She was 83.
Jan was born in Beckley West Virginia on August 10th 1928. Our mother moved to Arizona in 1944 with her family. She met Thomas R. Malloy and spent the next 63 years married to him and raising their 11 children. A loving mom, she would sing and tell stories to the younger children, each story and song well remembered after 50 years.
Mostly, she was a wonderful cook. After cooking for her family of thirteen people for so many years, catering became the natural outlet for her vast talent in the kitchen. I think everyone that new mom, would remember seeing her around a camp fire, or in a kitchen cooking for everyone and enjoying every minute.
Jan spent much of her later life in Payson and Camp Verde enjoying the romance of the American Southwest that she was so passionate about. Most people would agree that she was born about 100 years too late.
Retirement was never really an option for Jan Malloy. Once her kids had moved on, mom went on to give to the mentally handicapped adults of Rainbow acres, acting as a houseparent for many years. A match made in heaven. She and dad felt like they were at home. Mom did not choose an easy path, but she lived life fully, and well.
Jan was preceded in death by her mother and father, Maysel and Clarence Harvey, her brothers Gene Harvey, and Ken Harvey, as well as two grandsons, Matthew Showers, and Danny Malloy Plesher.
She is survived by her Husband Thomas R. Malloy and her brother Phil Harvey. Other surviving family members include all of her eleven children; Joseph, Thomas, Timothy, Rosanna Hornbeck, Louella Flanders and Leann Flanders, Daniel, Matthew, James, Lori Showers, and Steven. Finally, Jan left us the gift of her 31 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and as of now, three great, great, grandchildren.
Not a bad job mom, not bad at all.
A celebration of life service will be held on November 11, 2011 at 11:00 am at Leveen Baptist church, 5036 W. Dobbins Rd., AZ 85339.
